Cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) implantation is a diagnostic and therapeutic method with broad applications worldwide, increasingly being employed for a growing number of patients. These devices are long-term follow-up/monitoring devices, and after their implantation, regular follow-ups are conducted at specific intervals. These follow-ups provide crucial information about both the device and the patient carrying it, guiding diagnosis and treatment. Typically performed in a clinical setting, these follow-ups impose a significant burden on the healthcare system and its staff. Remote follow-up/monitoring, as discussed in this article, has the potential to replace many in-clinic follow-up/monitoring procedures, effectively addressing the device's and the patient's monitoring needs without compromising safety. By doing so, it can reduce the burden on the healthcare system and its staff in a cost-effective manner. This article aims to comprehensively explore the topic of remote follow-up/monitoring for CIEDs.
